Participles
a) What are gerund/participles/infinitives?
An Infinitive is a verbal that consists of 'to' and a 'verb'. It can act as a subject, an adjective, adverb, or a direct object.
Example:
a) To give
Sentence - He wants to give her a bouquet on her birthday.
Explanation -
In this sentence, the words 'to give' are used. The word 'to' makes it an infinitive.
b) To dance
Sentence - She wants to dance at the party tonight.
Explanation -
In this sentence, the words 'to dance' are used. The word 'to' makes it an infinitive.
c) To meet
Sentence - She wants to meet James to talk about the conference.
Explanation -
In this sentence, the words 'to meet' are used. The word 'to' makes it an infinitive.
Also, there is one more infinitive in this sentence.
It is - 'To talk' in which 'to' is used to make it an infinitive.
d) To eat
Sentence - He wants to eat ice cream.
Explanation -
In this sentence, the word 'to eat' is used. The word 'to' makes it an infinitive.
e) To speak
Sentence - He wants to speak to her right now.
Explanation -
In this sentence, the word 'to speak' is used. The word 'to' makes it an infinitive.
