In this blog, we are going to learn about Direct and Indirect Speech.  Types of Speech                      1) Direct Speech  2) Indirect Speech  Now let's learn about the two types of speeches in detail and practice them to understand better. 1) Direct Speech a) What is direct speech?  A direct speech is the reporting of the exact or the actual words spoken by someone to another person.  Clauses In the previous blog, we learned about phrases and their types. In this blog, you are going to learn about clauses.  What are Clauses?  Clauses are groups of words or phrases that consist of only one subject and one finite verb. Often, the subject is hidden in the clauses, but the verb should be differentiable.  Also, the verb could be a single action verb such as - worked, laughed, ate, danced, and thought. Or it could be a verb using auxiliary verbs such as - will be working, was laughing, is eating, was dancing, has been thinking.  Example:   a) Show Peter the model you made for the project work when he arrives at school.  In this sentence, the words he arrives is a clause .  Phrases In the previous blog, we learned about the Noun phrase, Prepositional phrase, and Adjective phrase. Now let's learn about phrases in detail.  What is a Phrase?  A phrase is a small group of words that stand together as a conceptual unit. A phrase can either consist of one word or it may consist of a complete sentence.  A phrase comes with a clause.  A phrase can also be written as a noun, verb, adverb, adjective or as an adjective in a sentence.  Example:  1) Mother is in the kitchen .  In this sentence, the word - in the kitchen is a phrase. This is because these are a group of words that are explaining a particular concept of the task that the mother is performing in the kitchen.  2) The boy on the bus is my classmate.  In this sentence, the word - the boy on the bus is a phrase.  Sentence  In the previous blog, we learned about the formation of grammatical structure and errors in a sentence. In this blog, we are going to learn about the types of sentences and practice them, in order to understand the concept better.  Types of Sentences  1) Simple Sentence  2) Compound Sentence  3) Complex Sentence  Now let's learn about each type of sentence briefly.  1) Simple Sentence   A simple sentence contains a subject and a verb. It expresses a single, complete thought that can stand on its own.   Example:  a) The baby cried for food.  In this sentence, there is a subject- The baby . Also, there is a verb- cried that expresses a complete thought. Hence, it is informing us about one idea which has a meaning in itself.
